MIU ACADEMIC MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

Founder & President - James Holmes

Since being appointed President of Management International University, James Holmes has led the expansion and the development of MIU into Africa and the Middle East, including the development of an MIU campus in Austria that will be home to a number of future students and the MIU headquarters.

 

James has an extensive background in education. As CEO of a China focused education business listed on the stock exchange, he led the company to be the first in the world to invest in Chinese higher education.

 

In addition to this work he was instrumental in the establishing of the pioneering organisation, Hello China. This was one of the first of its kind in what was later called, Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs). Hello China introduced a ground-breaking approach to education, setting itself apart from traditional university teaching methods.

 

Between 2004 - 2007, he was the president of Bethune Medical College and Chancellor of the Dalian Business Institute.

 

James was recently appointed as a Research Fellow at the Ethics Lab at Catholic University of Central Africa.

 

 MIU Executive - Kübra Kalkandelen

Passionate about human rights, diversity and inclusion. In service of this mission, leads ICO’s United Nation’s affiliation, minority rights’ programmes in Kosovo, Lebanon, and Nigeria, and other cross-community projects in divided cities. Kübra turns ideas into tangible projects and partnerships with +15 years of broad international experience across 20 countries for not-for-profit operations, stakeholder management, campaign and advocacy work, and raising/managing funds. She has been awarded with the EU Grant for Master's in Human Rights Policy and Practice (2014-2016, 240 credits), taught jointly by the University of Roehampton, London, the University of Goteborg, Sweden, and the Arctic University, Tromso, Norway. Her final research on ecocide is published by Taylor and Francis’s Journal of Social Theory. Kübra currently pursues an LLM in International and Commercial Dispute Resolution Law at Westminster University.


 

MIU Executive - Kenza Camara

Kenza Camara is the Associate Director at ICO focused on Strategy & Development. Kenza’s role includes engaging internal stakeholders in strategic discussions and finalising strategic plans across ICO’s intervention pillars. Kenza has played a leading role in the expansion of MIU’s footprint in Cameroon by establishing institutional partnership with Cosendai Adventist University and Paness Groupe. Kenza has also contributed to the creation of new academic services to broaden MIU’s academic offer to students such as the soon to launch MIU Incubator. Kenza holds a BA from the Political Economy department of King's College London and MSc in African Studies from Oxford University where she won the Kirk Greene Prize for academic excellence.


MIU Programme Manager - Charlie Grant

As Programme Manager for MIU Charlie focuses on a number of areas, including forming partnerships, Human Rights courses, and ensuring the smooth delivery of all courses in Lebanon, Cameroon, Nigeria and Kosovo.

Charlie is passionate about human rights and international humanitarian aid, having recently spent 2 months working in a migrant shelter in Tlaxcala, Mexico, working directly with migrants and refugees with a focus on human rights, gender equity and non-discrimination, as well as legal assistance.

Charlie holds a Masters Degree in Human Rights - Political Science, from the University of Manchester. During his MA, Charlie specialised in analysing racism and hate speech within political discourse and the media, and its subsequent trends in public discourse. 


Strategic Business Development Manager - Saddiqa Masud

Siddiqa joined Management International University (MIU) as our Strategic Business Development Manager, and since then she has been part of and leading various projects with MIU and ICO.

She brings a wide range of experience which includes Finance, project management, and education. She has managed large projects for well-known international companies, build and managed client relationships, and has over 12 years of experience in tax advisory/financial services in the UK and Australia.

She completed her degree in Business and Information Technology (IT) from Sydney Australia and later completed her Diploma in Accountancy in the UK, she is also a qualified trainer.

She is passionate about education and has worked with young children and young adults to achieve their goals which include voluntary work with the NGOs and schools to help disadvantaged young adults. She enjoys politics and loves to explore and speak about current affairs.  

MIU Project Co-ordinator - Nicole Lamb

Nicole Lamb is a dedicated and highly organized project co-ordinator with a strong passion for driving projects to successful completion, she assists MIU in various projects and is currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. With 5 years of experience in the project management, coordination, and finance & banking sector, she has demonstrated excellent skills in planning, execution, and team collaboration. In addition to this, Nicole has spent 3 years studying toward a Chartered Wealth Management degree and graduated in 2021.

Professor Kenneth Omeje

Kenneth Omeje  is the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Management International University (MIU), London and Extraordinary Professor at the School of Government Studies, North-West University (NWU) in South Africa. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies in Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and the University for Peace (UPEACE) Africa Programme in Addis Ababa, among others. Kenneth holds an MA degree in Peace & Conflict Studies from the European Peace University in Stadtschlaining, Austria and a PhD degree in Peace & Security Studies from the University of Bradford, UK. He has previously held the positions of Professor of International Relations (Peacebuilding & Security Studies) at the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya; Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford, and the Georg Arnhold Visiting Research Professor on Education for Sustainable Peace at the Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) in Braunschweig, Germany.

 Professor Hamdy A. Hassan

Hamdy A. Hassan is a Professor of Political Science at Zayed University, Dubai. He is also a Co-Chair of RC 44 – Security, Conflict, and Democratization, IPSA. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Cairo University and the University of Maryland in 1990. In 1999, he was awarded the Egyptian State Award in Political Science. He served as an elected Vice President of the African Association of Political Science (AAPS), based in Pretoria, South Africa. From 1999 to 2000, he served as the Director of the UNESCO Human Rights Chair located in Jordan. He has participated in many regional and international conferences.


 Professor Usman A. Tar

Usman A. Tar is the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security in the Government of Borno State in Nigeria; former Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Distinguished Endowed Chair of Defence and Security Studies at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Nigeria. He was also formerly an Associate Research Fellow at John and Elnora Ferguson Centre for Africa Studies (JEFCAS), University of Bradford; Assistant Professor at the Department of Politics and International Relations and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Kurdistan-Hewler, Northern Iraq. Usman is the author of The Politics of Neoliberal Democracy in Africa (London/New York: IB Tauris, 2009); editor of over a dozen publications including Defence Transformation and the Consolidation of Democracy in Nigeria (2018), etc.

Professor Anne Kubai

Anne Kubai is an Associate Professor of World Christianity and Interreligious Studies. Currently, she is a researcher at the School for Historical and Contemporary Studies in Södertörn University, Sweden. She is Professor Extraordinarius at the Institute of Gender Studies), University of South Africa. She is also an affiliated Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Kubai’s research interests include religion, peace and conflict, genocide and mass atrocities, gender, transitional justice, international migration, development, and psychosocial studies. A great deal of her work has focused on peacebuilding and reconciliation after mass atrocities and grave violations of human rights. She has a keen interest in the way spiritualties/religions (indigenous and others) shape social-political developments, post-conflict social reconstruction and the sustainability discourse in various parts of the world.

Professor Fatuma Ahmed Ali

Fatuma Ahmed Ali is an Associate Professor of International Relations at the United States International University – Africa (USIU-A), Nairobi, Kenya. She is also a Visiting Faculty and an External researcher of the Interuniversity Institute for Social Development & Peace (IUDESP) of the Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Her areas of specialization are in the field of International Relations, Peace, Conflict and Development Studies, Post-colonial Studies, Security and Gender Studies. Her research interests include, Gender and Violent Extremism, Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE), Women and War, Women Economic Empowerment (WEE), Peace Education, Peace Culture, Indigenous Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding Models, Social Development, African-Islamic Feminism, Women´s agency, Politics, Elections, Peace Settlements and Migration/Displacements in the Horn of Africa, Gender/Child Protection of Refugee and Conflict related sexual violence (CRSV).

Dr Ibrahim Bangura

Ibrahim Bangura is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and a Senior Partner of Transition International Netherlands. He has over 20 years' experience in the fields of peacebuilding, security, transitional justice, and human rights. He has worked on both long- and short-term assignments in countries such as South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Central African Republic and the DRC. Additionally, since 2010, Ibrahim has been serving as a Result Oriented Monitoring (ROM) consultant for European Union (EU) funded projects and programmes. Ibrahim holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and History; and a Master's degree in Gender Studies from University of Sierra Leone; a Master's degree in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam; and a Doctorate in Economics from the Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Germany. 


Dr Christian E. Ekoto

Christian E. Ekoto is an Adjunct Professor at the Adventist University Cosendai in Nanga-Eboko, Cameroon and teaches education, leadership, religion, and research methods in various universities in Africa, America, Asia, and the Caribbean. He is also an experienced university administrator, researcher, mentor, publisher, peer-reviewer, translator, and speaker who is passionate about empowering people. His research interests include research methodology (qualitative and quantitative), andragogy, teacher empowerment, and transfer of learning. Dr Ekoto earned his Bachelor’s degree in theology from Valley View University in Ghana and Master’s and Ph.D degrees in Education (Curriculum and Instruction/Research) from the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies in the Philippines.


Dr Claudia Baumann

Claudia Baumann, an expert in international higher education, brings over a decade of experience in practical work, teaching, and research in the field. She has held management and administrative positions at state and private universities in Germany, focusing on strategy and internationalization, particularly with regards to the global south. In addition to her practical roles, Claudia has been actively involved in teaching and research, specializing in Science Diplomacy and the Political Economy of Higher Education. Her expertise is shaped by her work as an executive advisor at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences, the sole German institution affiliated with a Turkish global education network. Claudia also supervised a transnational Master and PhD programme offered jointly by Leipzig University and Addis Ababa University.

Teaching Staff - Aferdita Sylaj Shehu

Aferdita Sylaj Shehu - Kosovo is a teaching assistant at the International Management University. Ms. Sylaj Shehu’s distinguished record speaks for itself. During her tenure as Executive Director, CBM has delivered sophisticated, large-scale projects benefiting citizens from all communities, and maintained an incomparable degree of efficiency, transparency, and accountability.  Ms. Sylaj Shehu is capable, professional, and diligent, ambitious in her aspiration for peaceful coexistence between communities in northern Kosovo, and relentless in pursuit of meaningful change to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, especially women and youth. Ms Sylaj Shehu embodies many of the characteristics such as credibility, integrity, objectivity, and public-spiritedness. Her many years of executive-level management experience is especially in the execution of its strategic, compliance, budget review, and personnel appointment functions. 

Ms. Sylaj Shehu has more than 20 years of experience in the Civil Society. She is a founder of the Mitrovica Women Association for Human Rights, Mitrovica Women Business Association, Mitrovica Region Monitoring Team (A network of more than 25 NGOs from the Mitrovica region), and the Master Program for Transitional Justice at Pristina University, state university in Kosovo. 


Aiyelu Timothy

Aiyelu Timothy Lawrence trained as a conflict management and mitigation expert with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), a Certified Mediator and Human Rights Trainer with over a decade of experience in human rights and peace activism. With a flair in Comparative Religion, He has practiced as a peace and conflict officer at the Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) in Kaduna State, helping in program design to prevent/mitigate ethno-religious crisis and Farmers-Herders Conflict in Nigeria and have since been part of many critical peace building efforts across the country (Bauchi, Kano, Plateau, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno and Taraba) in Nigeria.

He is a groundbreaking member and coordinator of the Nigerian Civil-Military Forum (NCMF), a platform which fosters mutual and friendly cooperation among civilians and military personnel. He has also worked as Snr. Program Officer in a USAID funded project; ‘Engaging Local Actors’ Project to Promote Peaceful Coexistence among Farmers and Herders in Taraba State, North East Nigeria; a joint program implemented under the supervision of Pact West Africa as the lead implementing partner and rated best at global level in 2021.

Meeria M. Merehbi

Meeria M. Merehbi is an accomplished private tutor with over a decade of experience catering to individuals of various age groups. Her expertise extends to educational facilitation, where she adeptly manages MIU courses in Lebanon, assists students with seamless registrations, and ensures a smooth online learning journey. With a pivotal role as a Centre Manager at SHIFT NGO in North Lebanon, working under several projects, Meeria passionately contributes to community development and positive change. Committed to nurturing a passion for learning and overcoming educational obstacles, she brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to her roles.


Eric Andjongo

Senior youth and Action Counsellor, Lecturer, specialist in entrepreneurship, project management and training systems engineering, ANDJONGO Éric Marial holds a master's degree in business intelligence obtained at the University of Yaoundé 2 where he is currently pursuing his PhD in management and strategy. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of N'Gaoundéré where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in computer science with a scientific calculation option. Professionally, in addition to his numerous consultations for international organisations and various companies, he is an executive at the Research Centre for Science and Techniques of Leisure Animation and Civic Education, and coordinator of the school of entrepreneurship and project management at the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS) in Yaoundé, Cameroon.


 


 

Samson Auta

Have been a peace activist and have dedicated his career in fostering peace and harmonious coexistence among diverse faith groups and communities in conflict. His journey has been deeply rooted in my work with the Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), a faith-based organization committed to building bridges and promoting peaceful resolutions in areas of tension. Throughout his tenure at IMC, he has served in various capacities, contributing to the development of training manuals and playing a pivotal role as a resource person in key peacebuilding areas. These areas include facilitating dialogue, mediation, mentoring/coaching, democratic governance, proposal writing, and reporting.
